Solar Promise vs. Performance Report
Is your solar system doing what you were promised?
Many homeowners were told to expect a near-zero electric bill and now pay a solar loan and a utility bill. Before you decide what to do about it, you need to know what is actually happening: how much the system produces, how that compares with the proposal, and what it costs you each month.
SolarDisclosure is a data analysis service. Using the production history you export from your own monitoring account, your utility usage records, your sales proposal and your loan, we build your Solar Promise vs. Performance Report: what you were promised, what the system delivered, and what it is costing you each month, with each difference traced to its cause.
Stop guessing. Get a clear, documented answer, and if you want to talk to someone about it, we can put you in touch with an independent consumer attorney in your state.
From the sample report
A Houston household promised 18,500 kWh a year that got 9,000, on a rate plan it was switched to at signing, with a dealer fee hidden in the loan.
Sample figures from a fictional property. Your report carries your numbers.
What the report does for you
Right now you have a feeling: the bill plus the loan is more than the bill used to be, and nobody will say so in writing. The report turns that feeling into a number, shows where every dollar of it came from, and puts it in writing so you can decide what to do next.
It puts a number on the gap
Your bills before solar, your bills since, and your panels' own production records, joined hour by hour. The result is one figure: how much more you pay every month than you would with no solar at all, and what that adds up to over ten years and over the life of the loan. Then it splits that figure into its causes: the rate plan you were put on, the panels producing less than promised, and what is buried in the loan.
It gives you something to show an attorney
If you decide to talk to a consumer protection attorney, the first thing they will ask for is the numbers. A report that shows the promised production next to the measured production, the promised payment next to the real one, and the difference month by month lets them give you an informed answer in one conversation instead of several.
If you ask, we will put you in touch with an independent consumer attorney licensed in your state and share your report with them. They decide whether they can help. We are not paid for that introduction.
It shows the lender the same math
When the installer arranged your loan, the lender inherited the installer's promises under a federal rule called the Holder Rule. A page of the report is written for the lender: what was promised, what was delivered, what the loan really costs, and what that adds up to. What the lender does with it is between you, the lender and anyone advising you; the report gives everyone the same facts.
And if the data shows your system is doing what it was sold to do, the report says that, and you stop wondering.
How it works
You send your electric bills from before and after the install, a production history exported from your own monitoring account (we show you how), your sales proposal, your contract and your loan agreement.
We join your meter data to your inverter data hour by hour, rebuild your pre-solar baseline from your own bills, and price every kilowatt-hour on the plan you are on and the plan you were promised.
You receive the report for your property, a twelve-month ledger built from the records you supplied, a summary written for your lender, and a one-page plain-English conclusion you can share with anyone you choose, including an attorney.
What it costs
If the numbers show your system is performing as sold, the report says so. You will know either way.
Start My Solar Proposal AuditWorks with any utility and any monitoring platform
Every major monitoring platform lets you export your own production history, and we walk you through it. Utility usage data comes from your utility's own download (Green Button where offered) or from your bills. We work in all 50 states. Equipment manufacturers are not parties to your sales proposal, and the report does not evaluate hardware quality.
Not a law firm
SolarDisclosure is a data analysis service, not a law firm, and nothing here is legal advice. If you want to talk to an attorney, we can put you in touch with an independent consumer attorney licensed in your state. We are not paid for that. The report documents the facts; what they mean under your state's law is for the attorney to say.
